Did You Know?
One of the responsibilities of the Great Parks of Hamilton County Operations department is to properly manage all of our wastewater sewer treatment plant functions? This includes making sure that all paperwork is submitted in a timely fashion to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA).
Currently, our wastewater service provider is Environmental Wastewater Services LLC (EWS). They perform all maintenance, sampling and a majority of repairs relating to our wastewater treatment systems. EWS is currently under a three year contract that may be renewed annually up to three years. This renewal period is from January 1- January 30 of each contract year.
We have five waste water treatment systems in are parks that are under permit with the OEPA. These systems are located in Miami White Water Forest, Shawnee Lookout, Mitchell Memorial, Triple Creek and Woodland Mound. We also have five mound systems at Winton Woods and 21 lift station units all around our parks and golf courses that are serviced and repaired throughout the year. These systems and units help with the process of waste water removal and are located in close proximity to restrooms.
Here are the EWS employees that are out and about in our parks keeping our parks environmentally safe.
Dave Markland and Dan Wuebbler with Environmental Wastewater Services both have Class I Wastewater Operators licenses. Dave has been in the wastewater field since 1990, building and operating treatment systems. Dan grew up around the wastewater field, and studied under a class III operator for a few years. Angie started with EWS in 1983 with her father, building controls and providing office support.
With this spring season fast approaching, hopefully this helps in better understanding wastewater sewer treatment plant functions and who you may see out there keeping our parks great!
