Getting on to Winton Lake is now easier and safer thanks to the installation of an accessible canoe and kayak launch. The new addition to Winton Woods will officially open on Friday, August 20 at 3 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and public use of the docking area.

The launch is unique in that it is equipped with a transfer system that allows unassisted individuals with a physical restriction to get into a canoe or kayak. It consists of a bench that slides over a chute with rails that allows the individual to sit down in the watercraft and slide easily into and out of the lake. The project also includes access from nearby parking to the launch that meets the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Standards.

This is the second launch of its kind in Great Parks. The other was installed in 2016 and is located at Miami Whitewater Forest.

The launch was funded through grants from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks Program, the Hatton Foundation, REI Co-op and Great Parks Forever.

Winton Woods Harbor is located at 801 Lakeview Drive, Cincinnati, OH 45231. For more information about Winton Lake and Harbor, click here.
