Great blue herons (Ardea herodias) are one of the largest birds in Ohio, standing at nearly 4 feet tall. Because great blue herons locate their food by sight, they often stand motionless or wade slowly in shallow bodies of water to snare their prey. They aren’t the most polite diners though; great blue herons swallow their food whole!
