The extensive marsh habitat found at Richardson Forest Preserve is one of this conservation area’s most unique features. Many rare and unusual plant species flourish here, including spring’s first-blooming wildflower: skunk cabbage! Did you know, skunk cabbage gets its name from the foul odor it gives off when it blooms? (You may be able to smell skunk cabbage before you see it.)
