One Last Kids’ Mystery Fish Challenge

Fishin' Line

On Labor Day, Lake Isabella was the host of the sixth and final Kids’ Mystery Fish Challenge of the year. Kids started to show up at 9 a.m. and anxiously awaited the contest to start. While the kids waited, they sent their parents into the boathouse for bait, specifically wax worms and nightcrawlers. A few of the more experienced kids tried their luck with lures and goldfish.

This was the last kids’ fishing event of the year, and we saw many familiar faces of kids who have attended before, plus a lot of new kids who were fishing at Lake Isabella for the first time. A total of 142 kids participated in this event, with many of the anglers constantly weighing fish from start to finish. We saw a nice variety of fish caught that day including bluegill, perch, crappie, large-mouth bass and channel catfish!

A BIG thank you to Bass Pro Shops for their sponsorship and prizes –- we couldn’t have done it without you! And another big thank you to all of the kids (and parents) who came out. In all, more than 400 kids participated in our kids’ fishing events this year! Be on the lookout for all of our kids’ fishing events to start back up next year on Memorial Day here at Lake Isabella.
