Lake Opens For Ice Fishing
Miami Whitewater Forest Lake is now open for ice fishing! It took one of our coldest winters on record, but for the first time in many years we have more than the minimum combination of clear and cloudy ice for safe fishing.
Great Parks Rangers declared safe ice at around noon yesterday, and within one hour there was a good crowd of fishermen on the lake. They were in search of crappie and caught a few small ones. Frank Eicher of Harrison nicely summed up the afternoon, explaining that it just feels good to be outside fishing again.
If ice fishing isn’t your thing, I think that we can see light at the end of this winter tunnel. Opening day is March 8…only about five weeks away!
